Mission

The Associação de Vinhos e Espirituosas de Portugal (Portuguese Wine and Spirits Association) is a nationwide non-profit business association created in January 1975 following the abolition of the Warehouse Keepers and Exporters Guilds

Objectives

Its main objective is to represent and defend the interests of traders and manufacturers of spirits, wines, and their derivatives. ACIBEV represents its members on the Advisory Board and Market Monitoring Committee of the Vine and Wine Institute (IVV - Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho), the Comité des Entreprises Vins (CEEV - Comité des Entreprises Vins), the European Spirits Confederation (Spirits Europe), and the Committee of Culinary Vinegars in Europe. Given the importance that the OIV has assumed with the new CMO, ACIBEV joined the CNOIV - National Commission of the OIV in Portugal in 2009. ACIBEV has a seat on several bodies in the field of socio-professional cooperation, such as the General Councils of the Alentejo, Setúbal Peninsula, Lisbon, Tejo, Vinhos Verdes, Dão, Algarve, Bairrada, Távora Varosa, and Beira Interior wine regions.

ACIBEV is also a member of ViniPortugal, currently representing the trade on its Board, where it has an active voice.

It is a founding member of the National Alcohol and Health Forum and has a seat on the National Council for Drug Problems, Drug Addiction, and Harmful Alcohol Use. It is committed to implementing the European Wine in Moderation program in Portugal. This program works to promote responsible consumption as a cultural/social norm in order to prevent and reduce alcohol abuse and related harm. At the same time, we want to preserve the cultural, environmental, and economic place of wine in European society.
