Founded in 1996, ViniPortugal is the Interprofessional Organisation of Portuguese Wine, recognised by order of the Ministry of Agriculture, and is the managing entity of the Wines of Portugal brand. Its mission is to promote the quality and excellence of Portuguese wines.

The German wine challenge Berliner Wine Trophy attributed 92 medals to the Portuguese wines

Portuguese wines collected 92 medals in one of the most important wine competition in Germany. Compared with last year, any Portuguese wine was awarded with the Grand Gold Medal, the highest classification of the competition. However, this year was more 28 Portuguese wines awarded comparatively to 2014. In the competition were awarded 63 gold medals and 29 silver medals and Douro was the most awarded region. For the other regions, the number of awards per region was quite equivalent. The Berliner Wein Trophy is a competition supported by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV). The competition set new standards with over 8,200 wine samples submitted.
